Book Cover: Sister Outsider by Audre Lorde

Revolutionary Reads is a student-led book group that discusses literary works about race and social justice. This month’s selection is Sister Outsider by Audre Lorde. In this collection of essays and speeches, Lorde covers sexism, racism, ageism, homophobia, and class. Lorde’s work is essential to “those truly interested in growing up sensitive, intelligent, and aware” (New York Times).

Christian Maddox, a senior Murphy Scholar, is the organizer of the group and long-time fan of Lorde’s work. He hopes this book choice “will continue to broaden more people's understandings of Black feminism and Black radical thought that continues to challenge structures and systems that still perpetuate oppression and exploitation today.” The Hendrix-Murphy Foundation is proud to support the campus reading community through literary book groups such as this.
